Lancet publication: Health policy for migrant children

Results of a MOCHA survey of all European Union and EEA countries has shown that migrant children’s right to health care is not being met in many cases.

Published today in the Lancet, Professor Anders Hjern and team have shown that irregular and destitute EU migrant children are rarely entitled to health care, other than in an emergency. 80% of European countries do not have policies that entitle migrant children to the care that is set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. This is a fundamental gap in service provision, and as it affects children traumatised by conflict, is something that needs urgent action.

The full report into migrant children’s entitlement to health care can be found on the MOCHA website.
